Slavia Field School in Mortuary Archaeology is a scientific, interdisciplinary program which provides students with instruction in archaeology, bioarchaeology and human osteology. This field school offers a unique opportunity for anthropology and archaeology students, future practitioners of forensic sciences as well as anyone interested in mortuary archeology to learn recovery and documentation techniques on both archaeological and human remains. All our students take part in archaeological works, getting hands-on experience in exploration of authentic mediaeval inhumations and related archaeological features from their discovery to final removal. We offer an intensive, practical course in human osteology and mortuary archaeology at the basic and advanced levels led by experienced English — speaking instructors. Slavia field school integrates archaeological excavation techniques of funerary contexts with a strong laboratory component which includes an opportunity to practice identification of complete and fragmentary human skeletal remains along with potential pathologies and liasons. We also provide opportunities for students to receive academic credit through the field school.
